Comfrey Leaf 'Honey Pot'

The idea behind this method is that if the slugs can be attracted to a good, easy meal they will leave the rest of the crop alone. In my garden nothing attracts slugs like comfrey. It's only due to its prolific nature that it manages to grow at all. Cut and left in a pile if creates a powerful slug magnet, providing an easy meal and a place to hide during the daylight hours. Once attracted to the pile there is no reason for the slugs to leave and explore your prized crops for a meal. Large numbers of the creatures quickly accumulate and can be easily separated from the large comfrey leaves for disposal. Comfrey has the added advantage that it can be used as a potent organic fertilizer either by applying the leaves directly as a top-dressing or by soaking them in a volume of water to make a liquid feed.

There are other honey-pots that can be used, grass clippings are another favourite but these turn into a damp mess over time so are less manageable.
